POSITION OVERVIEW
The Crew Swing (Props/Carpentry) is responsible for leading the show’s advance call, assisting with load-ins in the carpentry department, and acts as a cover for show tracks in the Props and Carpentry departments. They will supervise local crew members that will help assist in loading in and out the show. They are responsible for at least one local crew member during the performances. This role involves some carpentry skills and a strong focus on safety and efficiency during performances.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead the show’s advance call with a local crew. This includes directing local crew members in spotting and cabling motors, assembling trusses, running overhead cable, etc.
· Become familiar with show specific elements, their assembly process, and travel methodology
· Maintain proficiency in all track coverages as designated by the Head Carpenter
· Lead local crew in whatever task necessary for the track
· Load and secure show elements in touring trailers
· Lead and direct a team of locals to assist in loading in the show; oversee the same local crew during performances
· Pending daily schedule: run a show track for the performance(s)
· Manage hardware, tools, and supplies inventory; keep road boxes organized
· Perform work calls when needed per the direction of the department head
· Recognize unsafe work and report it to the Head Carpenter; understand the Employer's Safety Handbook
· Understand the Employer’s safety handbook, specifically regarding Fall Arrest and Fall Prevention Protocols
KEY QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
· Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to completing both complex and routine tasks with precision.
· Technical theatre experience is valuable; diverse backgrounds in the performing arts are welcomed. National touring experience is a plus.
· Rigging experience is critical.
· Collaborative team player, comfortable working long hours in close quarters with different types of personalities.
· Flexible and willing to work an 8-show a week schedule, which may include additional calls outside of regular performances for rehearsals
· Ability to adapt to varying loud sound and flashing lighting environments
· Comfortable working in various spaces that may be dark and cramped; adaptability is key in different environments.
· Excellent practical, problem-solving, organizational, planning and time management skills.
· Proficiency in computer skills (Mac and PC) is a bonus; a willingness to learn new technologies is encouraged.

· Able to physically move 75 pounds, be comfortable lifting and walking backwards, and be comfortable walking up and down stairs.
· Valid Driver’s License / A valid Driver’s License is preferred but not mandatory
· A valid passport or travel document that allows for international travel
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
· Skill with Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD is a plus
· Experience in carpentry or related technical theatre work.
· Strong technical skills and understanding of stage machinery
· Experience in carpentry, painting, costuming, and/or related technical theatre work.
· Strong technical skills and understanding of fabrication methods
