Williamstown Theatre Festival launches its 2017 season June 27 with Jen Silverman's new play The Roommate. Directed by Mike Donahue, performances continue on the Main Stage through July 16.

The cast is led by Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner S. Epatha Merkerson and Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee Jane Kaczmarek. Merkerson is cast as Sharon, who is empty-nested and alone in her Midwestern home and takes on a roommate, Robyn (Kaczmarek). Before she has even unpacked, Robyn challenges everything about Sharon’s way of life.

The season continues June 28 with the world premiere of Jason Kim's The Model American, which runs through July 9 on the Nikos Stage.

Danny Sharron directs the new play that addresses this question: What does it take for an immigrant to achieve the American Dream in 2017? The cast includes Hiram Delgado, Sheria Irving, Han Jonghoon, Maurice Jones, Laila Robins and Micah Stock.

“Young, Latino, gay, and unapologetically ambitious, Gabriel (Delgado) arrives in New York City seeking work, friendship, love, and mentorship,” according to Williamstown. “But before he can move forward, he must honestly determine if he is running toward success or away from what he left behind.”
