The work centers on Usher, a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thoughts while trying to write a musical about a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thought while trying to write a musical about... and on and on.

The Broadway production and its album will feature 2022 Tony nominees Lee and Morrison, Antwayn Hopper, James Jackson, Jr., John-Michael Lyles, and Jason Veasey reprising their performances from the Off-Broadway production, along with newcomer and fellow 2022 Tony nominee Spivey as Usher.

Also on the musical's creative team are costume designer Montana Levi Blanco, music director Rona Siddiqui, and casting director Destiny Lilly of The Telsey Office.

The Broadway album—produced by Michael Croiter and Jackson, with Kurt Deutsch and Barbara Whitman as executive producers, and orchestrator Rosen and music director Siddiqui as co-producers—will be the work's second, following the Off-Broadway cast album released following its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons, produced in collaboration with Page 73 Productions, in 2019.
