Benefits and Galas Scandal's Bellamy Young to Star in Benefit Reading of Bonded

The new play from playwright Tyler Martin centers on siblings working through family trauma.

Bellamy Young

Scandal star Bellamy Young will make her New York stage return in a benefit reading of Tyler Martin's Bonded, presented by MenHealing and the Ruby Struve Fund, October 15 at 3 PM at Theatre Row both in-person and via a live stream.

Young will co-star with Martin and Brian Thomas Abraham.

Young, last seen on the stage in Broadway's The Life, will star as Nellie, sister to Martin's Emmett, who reunite in their Texas hometown to discuss their next steps as Emmett faces possible prison time following a second DWI. As shared family trauma is unearthed, a newfound bond might be the very thing preventing a true resolution. Abraham (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) will co-star as James, with Laura Yen Solito reading stage directions.

Directed by Thomas Caruso, the reading will be followed by a talkback with the cast and creative team.

"Abuse and trauma survivor stories are seldomly authentically told through media and, when they are, they are often not accessible or engageable to those who most need them," says Martin in a statement. "As a survivor, it was important for me to tell a story with earnest nuance, to see real people, and to examine how these people would realistically navigate and discuss their experiences."

Proceeds from the reading will benefit MenHealing and its work to provide resources for male and male-identified survivors of sexual trauma. Learn more at MenHealing.org.

In-person and virtual attendees can RSVP at MenHealing.net, with donations to MenHealing encouraged. Both the in-person and virtual performances will include ASL interpretation.
