New York's Symphony Space will stage a reading of David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre April 29.
Starring Tony winners Santino Fontana (Tootsie, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Frozen) and BD Wong (Jurassic Park, Mr. Robot, Awkwafina is Nora From Queens), the reading will be a part of Symphony Space’s At Play series, which gives artists the opportunity to undertake a project they have dreamed of pursuing. In this case, that dream is an exploration of Mamet’s comedy about two actors at different stages of their careers. Obie winner Kathleen Chalfant (Angels in America, Familiar Touch) will read the stage directions.
In A Life in the Theater, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-The-Plow takes us into the lives of two actors: John (Fontana), young and rising into the first flush of his success, and Robert (Wong), older, anxious, and beginning to wane. In a series of short, spare, and increasingly raw exchanges, we see the estrangement of youth from age and the wider, inevitable and endless cycle of life, in and out of the theatre. At Play: A Life in the Theatre will start at 7 PM and run approximately 75 minutes.
A Life in the Theatre is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
