New App Sets Shakespeare to Rap | Playbill

News New App Sets Shakespeare to Rap "RE:Shakespeare," a new app developed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, is attempting to bridge the gap between Shakespeare and rap. The app, co-created with Samsung, remixes Shakespeare's prose through a hip-hop lens.

Actor David Tennant hosts the app, which is now available through Google Play.

"RE:Shakespeare" includes such features as an examination of insults and courtships, beatboxing from producer Shlomo, a quiz designed to determine whether certain lines were written by Shakespeare or hip-hop artists and full 360-degree footage of a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Much Ado About Nothing.

The Royal Shakespeare Company hopes that the app will engage younger audiences and show Shakespeare's modernity.
