A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical has announced that it will open on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre later this year. The biomusical about the singer-songwriter, currently in rehearsals ahead of its extended world-premiere engagement at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre beginning June 21, will begin previews on Broadway November 2, and officially open December 4. Will Swenson and Mark Jacoby are starring as Neil Diamond-Then and Neil Diamond-Now, respectively, for the pre-Broadway run. Casting for the Main Stem bow is to be announced.
Featured on the creative team are Olivier-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Once, Black Watch); four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody, Darkest Hour, The Theory of Everything), who is penning the book; and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Spring Awakening). Aadditional creative team members will be announced at a later date for the production, which is being produced by Ken Davenport and Bob Gaudio.
In 1972, Diamond gave a series of concerts in the Winter Garden Theatre, the 50th anniversary of which will coincide with the musical's Broadway run.
The production incorporates hits from Diamond, whose recordings include “Cracklin’ Rose,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Song Sun Blue,” “Longfellow Serenade,” “I’ve Been This Way Before,” “If You Know What I Mean,” “Desiree,” “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” “America,” “Yesterday’s Song,” and “Heartlight.” The Grammy winner is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and a recipient of both the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award and the Kennedy Center Honor.
