If you see Laura Linney in the audience while you’re on stage, perhaps it's best to look away. In a bit during the 2019 Tony Awards, the four-time nominee confirmed that she indeed had flipped the bird to Audra McDonald while the latter performed a matinee of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

“Yeah, I did that,” Linney said defiantly to a visibly upset McDonald. What could’ve been a misunderstanding (like the ones between Ben Platt and Rachel Brosnahan or Andrew Rannells and Darren Criss hashed out earlier), was clearly not. See the two Broadway titans go at it in the video above.

Earlier in the evening, host James Corden had also decided it was a good time to practice losing faces. First up was Kristin Chenoweth who needed to look happy but still conveying sadness. Also shown rehearsing their ambivalent reactions were the cast of The Boys in the Band, and Jeff Daniels.
