Off-Broadway institution St. Ann's Warehouse has announced its 2025–2026 season, and it's a particularly starry one. Of note will be a new production of Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie, starring Emmy Award-winning actor Michelle Williams and Tony-nominated actor Mike Faist, and directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail. The production will run November 25, 2025-February 1, 2026.
Williams will play the title character, a reformed prostitute. The last time screen actor Williams was on stage was in Blackbird in 2016 (actor Williams is not to be confused with pop star Michelle Williams, who is currently on Broadway in Death Becomes Her). And though Faist has been notorious on the screen in recent years (such as in Challengers), he began his career on the stage in Dear Evan Hansen, winning both Grammy and Emmy Awards).
Said Kail (Hamilton) in a statement: "There is a particular sense of joy and anticipation I feel when walking along the river to St. Ann’s Warehouse: you know when you enter the building that anything can happen—and then, it does. My first time in their audience was the initial run of Black Watch, which knocked me out. The Cherry Orchard they recently did was equally electrifying. It is an honor to have a chance to work with the extraordinary Michelle and Mike and this uncommonly talented creative team on Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie. To revive a play is to stand as part of a lineage, part of the glorious tradition of theatre, to offer up something that is connecting the past and the present. Doing this play about what it means to try and make a new life on the sea—and the shore—at the remarkable riverside St. Ann's Warehouse feels like an ideal match.”
The other shows that St. Ann's has announced for the fall are Weather Girl by Brian Watkins and Flaming September by Justin Vivian Bond. Weather Girl (September 16-October 12) will star Julia McDermott (Heroes of the Fourth Turning) as an underpaid weather girl. It is directed by Tyne Rafaeli (Becoming Eve) and produced by Francesca Moody Productions (the producer of Fleabag).
Flaming September (September 24–28) will be performed by cabaret star Bond (Kiki & Herb). The new show, written by Bond, is a tribute to the late singer Marianne Faithfull—who performed and recorded her comeback concert and record, Blazing Away, at the Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights. Flaming September will also be performed at the church, St. Ann's original home. The show will be directed by Daniel Fish (Oklahoma!), with music direction by Matt Ray and lighting by John Torres.
Said Bond in a statement: "‘Someday, I’m going to move to New York and perform at St. Ann’s Church,' I promised myself after listening to Blazing Away [in the 1990s]. By some glorious twist of fate, St. Ann’s Warehouse and St. Ann’s Church have decided to work together once more. I pounced! The dream I thought was lost has suddenly become possible."
