Michael Frayn's Matchbox Theatre Will Premiere in April | Playbill

News Michael Frayn's Matchbox Theatre Will Premiere in April Hampstead Theatre is to premiere Matchbox Theatre, described as "an evening of short entertainments" by Michael Frayn, beginning performances April 25 prior to an official opening May 4, for a run through June 6.

Last fall the playwright and novelist published his latest and most unusual book "Matchbox Theatre" - a series of conversations, sketches and meditations that look at how we live today. Blurring the boundaries between his work for page and for stage, it begs the question – are these mini-plays or short stories?

Now stories drawn from the book are being brought to life at Hampstead Theatre in Frayn’s first new work for the stage since Afterlife premiered at the National Theatre in 2008.

Previous play by Frayn to have premiered at Hampstead Theatre include Alphabetical Order and Clouds (both of which transferred to the West End) and Now You Know. Other plays include Noises Off, Benefactors, Make and Break, Copenhagen and Democracy.

It is directed by Hamish McGoll, with designs by Polly Sullivan. Casting is still to be announced.

To book tickets, which are on sale to members now and on public sale from March 6, contact the box office on 020 7722 9301 or visit www.hampsteadtheatre.com.
