An invite-only industry presentation of MENS, a new work by Blake DeLong, will be presented at The 52nd Street Project January 17. Jon Hudson Odom is directing, with producers Ashely Melone and Nick Mills leading the project.
Set in a small men's dressing room for a starry Off-Broadway revival of Hamlet, MENS explores "how families are created and dissolved," according to press notes. The cast will include Reed Birney, Teagle F. Bougere, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Shannon Dorsey, Christopher Ryan Grant, Amy Hargreaves, Fred Lehne, Michael Rishawn, and Christine Spang.
“Blake DeLong has crafted a timely, funny, beguiling love letter to actors and the theatre," says Mills in a statement. "Ashley and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to help introduce this play to the theatre community in New York and to introduce Blake, whose work as an actor I have long admired, as a playwright.”
DeLong's acting work includes performances in Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812; Othello; and Death of a Salesman. An earlier play, The Hottest Blood, played three invitation-only performances in Manhattan in 2015, with DeLong and David Rhysdahl starring.
