US/Canada Liza Minnelli Is Celebrated Tonight in New York The legendary stage and screen actress comments on the concert event celebrating her 70th birthday.

Seth Sikes will return to Feinstein’s/54 Below with Seth Sikes Sings Liza Minnelli, an evening of Minnelli’s most popular songs, March 12, the legendary entertainer’s 70th birthday.

“I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our greatest living legend’s birthday, through her incredible music,” said Sikes. “I’ll be singing some of Liza’s signature tunes along with some little known gems.”

The March 12 show sold out months in advance.

While Minnelli will not be present she told Playbill exclusively, “I hear that Seth is wonderful so I am sorry to miss it but if he has half as much fun as I have singing these songs then he’s in for quite a ride.”

Previously best known in the theatre as an assistant director (on shows like The Nance, Tribes, and Pageant), Sikes will perform with an eight-piece band. Features are Paul Masse (piano), Greg Joseph (drums), Corey Schutzer (bass), Dave Trigg (trumpet), Marc Phaneuf (reeds), Mike Fahn (trombone), Dan Weiner (percussion) and Tom Norton (guitar).

The evening was conceived by Sikes and Tony-Award winning lyricist Lisa Lambert and will feature orchestrations by Matt Aument, Neil Douglas Reilly and Jesse Vargas. Eric Gilliland will direct, and Paul Masse is the evening’s musical director.
