Playwrights Horizons has named four artists as new additions to its Board of Directors, three of whom are recent alums of the Off-Broadway company. The Board now welcomes director and current Slave Play Tony nominee Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy, Bella: An American Tall Tale), playwright and MacArthur Fellow Larissa FastHorse (The Thanksgiving Play), and playwright and screenwriter Bash Doran (Kin), as well as Emmy-winning screen director-producer Alan Poul (Six Feet Under).

The quartet marks the first artistic representation on the company’s board in its 50-year history. Board Chair Judith O. Rubin calls the change “energizing,” noting that the decision arrives at a time “when the theatre has been forced to pause and reflect on the ways it must move forward.”

“The ongoing project of Playwrights Horizons, over five decades, is to follow the visions, inquiries, and reckonings set down for us by writers of new plays,” added Adam Greenfield, who was named artistic director last year. “We can only fulfill this promise, whether in times of crisis or stability, if we include artists in the process of envisioning and strategizing our future course and make writers truly integral to every facet of our work.”

While the theatre remains closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Playwrights Horizons intends to present Aleshea Harris’ What to Send Up When It Goes Down, Sylvia Khoury’s Selling Kabul, Dave Harris’ Tambo & Bones, and Sanaz Toossi’s Wish You Were Here at some point this year.
