Drew McOnie will direct an upcoming revival of Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song at the Turbine Theatre, a new performing arts venue set to launch in London later this year.
The production will kick off the theatre's inaugural season August 22, with performances running through October 13 and an opening night set for September 6. Matthew Needham stars as Arnold with Daisy Boulton as Laurel, Dino Fetscher as Ed, and Rish Shah as Alan.
A condensed version of Fierstein's trilogy, starring Michael Urie, recently played Broadway's Hayes Theater, earning the playwright a third Tony Award nomination for the title after he won in 1983 for both Best Play and Best Actor in a Play.
Turbine Theatre Artistic Director Paul Taylor-Mills said, "The vision is a simple one: to enable world-class artists to tell stories that enchant at The Turbine Theatre and eventually play beyond our London home. We’re interested in being the starting point for new shows and also reimagining the older ones."
McOnie is currently represented on Broadway as director and choreographer of King Kong. He is also choreographer of the Olivier-winning 50th anniversary production of Jesus Christ Superstar, currently playing the Barbican and slated to tour the U.S. this fall.
