Jill Rafson will assume the role of Classic Stage Company's Producing Artistic Director June 21. Succeeding John Doyle, Rafson joins CSC from Roundabout Theatre Company, where she most recently served as associate artistic director and artistic producer for the Roundabout Underground program.

"I can't wait to revisit and reinvigorate some of theatre’s most beloved works, give a platform to plays that should be considered canon, give today's most thrilling voices the chance to do work inspired by and in conversation with that canon, and add to the canon by producing the classics of the future," said Rafson in a statement.

Board Co-Chair Emma Taylor, in a statement, said, "Jill has been a trailblazer in her support of the next generation of playwrights whose work can be considered modern classics."

Rafson joined Roundabout Theatre Company in 2005 where she developed many new works, including The Humans by Stephen Karam, If I Forget by Steven Levenson, Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon, and Usual Girls by Ming Peiffer.

Rafson has worked with The Broadway League, New York City Center, and ART/NY as well as working with individual artists as a dramaturg. In her work fostering new theatre artists, Rafson served as a member of NYFA’s Emerging Arts Leaders program, and has taught or lectured for the Commercial Theatre Institute, ESPA, Kenyon College, Columbia University, Hunter College, and others. Currently, she also serves on the board of the Alliance for Jewish Theater.
