Jason Robert Brown, most recently represented on Broadway with the new musical Honeymoon in Vegas, presented a reading of the first draft of his new musical The Connector, which the Tony winner is creating with playwright Jonathan Marc Sherman (Things We Want) and director Daisy Prince (The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World).

In a post on his Facebook page, composer Brown wrote, “It was also the first time in over five years that I have put totally new theatrical material in front of actors and asked them to bring it to life – I am so lucky that I had such an incredible and generous group of collaborators, not just the fifteen actors but a great band and an amazingly supportive staff from New York Theatre Workshop. Who ever knows what will happen with a show, but today felt like a great beginning, and a ridiculous amount of fun.”

In January 2011 the Chicago Tribune reported that composer Brown's The Connector would bow at Chicago's Northlight Theatre toward the end of the 2011-12 season. Prince had been scheduled to direct that production, which never materialized; the Tribune said at that time that the musical “is about journalism, the lack of integrity that afflicts the media in the current age, and the advent of reporters who make up news.”

Brown won Tony Awards for his scores to Parade and The Bridges of Madison County as well as his orchestrations for the latter.
