Hue Park and Will Aronson are double Tony winners tonight, for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical for their labor of love, Maybe Happy Ending. In the press room, they expressed true wonderment at the way their tender musical has been embraced.
"I've been trying not to cry all day," Park shared, deeply emotional. "This is just amazing. This is beyond my wildest dreams. Seriously, thanks to the theatre community for embracing us so absolutely."
"And to our fans!" Aronson adds. "We call them our fireflies. They really came out to support the show, and managed to keep the show open, and I'm just so incredibly grateful... we didn't look at anything that was published in the beginning, but we heard that it had a very difficult start. It was the theatre community, and the fans, who saved it. Thank you, truly."
Oh, and as for succulent plant HwaBoon, the show's unexpected breakout star?
"He was much more humble in Seoul," Park says, chuckling. "He's changed his personality. I think he likes being in America as much as you like him!"
