Six productions will be featured during the Bucks County Playhouse's 2025 season, including two new musicals: Hard Road to Heaven and The Apple Boys.

The upcoming season marks the expansion of Bucks County's mainstage programming from its traditional summer launch to a new start date in February.

The season will kick off with the new musical Hard Road to Heaven, which will be presented February 28-March 23. Featuring a book by Willy Holtzman and music and lyrics by David Spangler, Jerry Taylor, and Marty Dodson, the musical follows Jenny Dixon, the reigning queen of country as she navigates the ups and downs of a superstar career and the gospel-singing family she left behind. Jackson Gay will direct.

The Apple Boys, with a book by Jonothon Lyons and music and lyrics by Ben Bonnema, will play the Pennsylvania venue May 2–25. Directed by David Alpert and choreographed by Marc Kimelman, the musical comedy is set in early 20th-century Coney Island and concerns Jack Chapman III, grandson of Johnny Appleseed, who rallies a colorful cast of characters to save his family’s struggling apple orchard.

The season will also include fresh productions of Leader of the Pack (June 20-July 20, directed and choreographed by Shea Sullivan), She Loves Me (August 15-September 14), and Elf: The Musical (November 21-January 4, 2026, directed by John Tartaglia) as well as the return of The Rocky Horror Show, which broke records for the theatre in October 2024. The last offering is an additional off-subscription production and will run October 10-November 2, directed by Hunter Foster and choreographed by Shannon Lewis.

“Last year, more than 40,000 new patrons walked through our doors for the first time,” says Producing Director Alexander Fraser in a statement. "And so, we continue to grow. Now with five, self-produced original productions in our subscription series, including two world premieres and three terrific musicals we love, we are proud to finally realize our dream of becoming a year-round producing theatre.”

Bucks County Playhouse is under the artistic leadership of Producing Director Alexander Fraser, Executive Producer Robyn Goodman, and Producer Josh  Fiedler.
