Linus Karp and Awkward Productions' Gwyneth Goes Skiing begins its Off-Broadway engagement January 20.
Running at Soho Playhouse through January 26, this is the second-to-last stop on the productions international tour. The final engagement will be in Los Angeles, at The Elysian January 30-February 2.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing is based on the testimonies from the infamous skiing accident between Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow and a retired optometrist, and the ensuing trial.
Seven years after their run in on the Utah ski slopes, retired optometrist Terry Sanderson filed suit against Paltrow, claiming that he was left with a concussion, four broken ribs and a brain injury that required compensation. While Sanderson had sued for $3.1 million in compensation, Paltrow counter-sued for $1 and attorney fees, with the jury deciding in Paltrow's favor following testimony that Sanderson had directly skied into her, making him the offending party and therefore responsible for his own injuries.
Awkward Productions was created by Karp and Joseph Martin to bring ridiculous pop culture driven comedy to the stage. Their trinity of shows consists of Gwyneth Goes Skiing, Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story and how to live a jellicle life: life lessons from the 2019 hit movie musical ‘cats’. A popular producer on the Edinburgh Fringe, all three shows have achieved sold-out runs, toured the U.K. extensively, received international media coverage and won awards.
