Two new titles have been added to the Chicago Goodman Theatre's previously announced 2021–22 season: the world premiere of Rebecca Gilman’s Swing State and the Chicago premiere of composer-lyricist Britta Johnson’s new musical Life After, the latter replacing the musical adaptation of The Outsiders.

Goodman Artistic Director Robert Falls—who will be stepping down at the end of this season—will direct Swing State, running April 1–May 1. The Wisconsin-set drama centers on souring friendships in a rural community when an out-of-state power company starts a land grab.

The musical Life After by Britta Johnson will run June 11–July 17. Annie Tippe will direct the production about a grieving teen who sets out to uncover the events surrounding the death of her father.

The previously announced musical adaptation of The Outsiders—based on S.E. Hinton’s novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s filmwill run at a future date to be announced.
