Friends of Giuseppe Bausilio, who has been a dancer on Broadway since 2008 and played the title role of Billy Elliot, have launched a GoFundMe account to help the young performer cover medical bills for back surgery.

The 19-year-old is currently on leave from the Broadway revival of Cats, in which he plays Carbuckety.

According to the GoFundMe appeal, “Doctors recently discovered a vascular mass (tumor) in his spinal canal. He is scheduled for surgery this Thursday [September 29] and is hopeful for a full recovery.”

According to the GoFundMe page, the campaign, will help “offset the medical expenses that are not covered by his insurance. Additionally, his leave is unpaid, and his living and travel expenses in NYC need to be addressed.”

The appeal had reached $3.475 pf the $8,000 goal as of the morning of September 26. The appeal promises that 100 percent of donations will go to Bausilio.

The Swiss-born dancer also appeared in Newsies and Aladdin, and is scheduled to dance in Hello, Dolly! next spring.
