According to the New York Post, Dave Kaplan, director of the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center, confirmed that Berra died of complications from a stroke. The Berras married Jan. 26, 1949, and were the central characters in the Broadway play Bronx Bombers, which ended its run March 2 at Circle in the Square. Tracy Shayne (Chicago, A Chorus Line) played Carmen alongside her real-life husband Peter Scolari (Lucky Guy) as Yogi.
"Meeting [the Berras] was such a high point, and they're still so attached at the hip — so much in love," said Shayne in a recent interview with Playbill magazine. "Carmen and I stared at each other for so long! We were taking each other in. I brought her a plate of food. We were looking at each other's clothes. [We had conversations like,] 'Oh, I like your blouse.' ... 'I love your scarf.' It was a bonding moment between us."
The Berras attended a production of Bronx Bombers in its Off-Broadway incarnation at Primary Stages.
