Grosses Broadway Grosses Analysis: Funny Girl Box-Office Up by $1 Million

The revival at the August Wilson Theatre was the third highest-grossing production of the week.

Although she is now out of the production through September 20 due to testing positive for COVID, Lea Michele's first week in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl was a boon for the box office, bringing in $1,639,212 compared to the previous week's $659,874. The production, which also welcomed Tovah Feldshuh September 6, played to 95.81% capacity.

The Michael Mayer-directed revival was the third highest-grossing production for the week ending September 11. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton took the top spot with $1,884,105. The Music Man, which is typically in the first position, was on a scheduled hiatus and did not hold any performances during the week. The top earners also included MJ The Musical ($1,698,290) and the Disney hit The Lion King ($1,580,294).

The total grosses for the week across all 19 running Broadway shows was $20,638,554. Attendance decreased to 89.79% of capacity, down slightly from the previous week's 89.84%. 

Playing to 100% capacity or more were the aforementioned MJ and the Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen, which is in its final week at the Music Box Theatre.
