Earlier this year, Ramos took on the role of Usnavi (originated by Miranda himself) for the Kennedy Center's Broadway Center Stage series; he would presumably reprise his performance on screen. His additional credits include Miranda's musical short 21 Chump Street, Netflix's She's Gotta Have It, and the return of Will & Grace.

The Warner Bros. project, directed by Jon M. Chu and featuring a screenplay by original book writer Quiara Alegría Hudes, is slated to premiere June 26, 2020.

The Tony-winning musical, which opened on Broadway in 2008, offers a slice-of-life chronicle of an array of characters living in Washington Heights, mostly told through the lens of bodega owner Usnavi, who emigrated from the Dominican Republic at a young age.

Prior to its fresh start with Warner Bros., the movie had been in development with The Weinstein Company; rights reverted back to Miranda and Hudes earlier this year.
