Industry News André De Shields and Dénee Benton to Announce 2022 Drama League Award Nominees

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will host the nominations event.

The 2022 Drama League Awards nominees will be announced at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts April 25 at 11 AM ET by Tony winner André De Shields (Hadestown) and Tony nominee Denée Benton (The Great Comet of 1812, The Gilded Age), both of whom have previously been nominated for Drama League Distinguished Performance Awards.

Nominations will recognize eligible Broadway and Off-Broadway (non-virtual only) productions which began previews between March 16, 2021 and April 23, 2022. The Drama League has created two new categories to recognize directing: Outstanding Direction of a Play and Outstanding Direction of a Musical. Awards will also be given in the familiar categories of Distinguished Performance Award, Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Play, and Outstanding Revival of a Musical. 

The award ceremony for the 88th Annual Drama League Awards will be presented in person at The Ziegfeld Ballroom May 20 at 12 PM. Additionally, the ceremony will be giving awards to Lileana Blain-Cruz, Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackman and Willette Murphy Klausner as Special Recognition Honorees as previously reported.
