Off-Broadway News All-Black, Women Company and Creative Team to Bring New Play The Cotillion Off-Broadway

Written by Colette Robert, the work follows a Black debutante ball in real time.

New Georges and The Movement Theatre Company will present the world premiere of Colette Robert's new play The Harriet Holland Social Club Presents the 84th Annual Star-burst Cotillion in the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel at the Mezzanine Theater at A.R.T./New York. It begins May 3 with opening night set for May 7. The Off-Broadway run will continue through May 27.

Robert will helm the premiere production of her work, which will also feature music and lyrics by Dionne McClain-Freeney and additional lyrics by Robert. nicHi douglas is choreographing. The production's full cast and creative team, including a three-member band, will be comprised of Black women. Full casting and further creative team members are to be announced.

The work explores Black debutante ball culture and the contradictions hiding beneath its respectability politics.
